A Great Post
By a great athlete; Stephen Kilshaw
Days
10 weeks ago I happened upon the chance to coordinate one of the Times Colonist 10K clinics, and what an awesome opportunity this has become!
Working with one of the largest clinic groups in the city has been a gift. It's been a pleasure to work with each of you.

As always I began the day with a Sunday Sunrise Search run, this time sticking to the soft undulating cedar chip trails.
Whether you're riding out and back along the Galloping Goose, or Running around Cedar Hill, we often roll pass the same person a few times in a given session. It's amazing how much communication can happen in a passing glance. One smile on the way past . . . & next time it's passed right back to you. It's free energy, & it feels good.

Today I was asked to do a talk on "The Bad Day."
Fortunately, part of the deal is I have pretty much free range on what angle to take with these talks.
The Bad Day . . . hmmm. What exactly are we talking about here?
The day is just a day. It's a day just as every day is a day. The day is the same day it has always been, for thousand of years past and thousands of years to come!
The day is a day, & it will always be just that, a day.
A good day? . . . A great day!
A bad day . . . eh?
Is that a day where you're just not hitting the numbers on the track, in the pool, or on the bike?
Just like the day, the numbers are just the numbers. They are the same numbers they have always been. Sometimes they are high. Sometimes they are low. They are just numbers. They can be great tools, only because they are exactly what they are.
The day is. The numbers are. So what's the difference?
We experience.
We learn to experience the day, the run, the swim, the bike, the bus, the drive, the wait in line, the wind, the rain, the birds, the waves, the sun, the clouds, the sky, the ocean, the mountains . . .
We learn to experience these things just as they are, for their own absolute perfection in being just what they are, as they are.
The joy of just running, swimming, biking, busing, driving, waiting, seeing, listing, feeling, living . . .
Just as fast as we share our experience of the day with each other, we choose what the day is.
Pass on the smile and there's free energy for a great day.
Rest well.

Tucson Camp Day 7 & 8
Another successful camp has come to an end here in Tucson. Yesterday the whole team made it to the top of Mt. Lemmon on a picture perfect day. There was not a cloud in the sky and little to no wind all the way up. The top was a bit cooler but nothing like years past when we have been here in the last week of February. (For those that are interested, Ben was king of the mountain today, making it to the top in a very quick 1:40. I cracked at mile 9 and proceeded to lose almost 10 minutes in the final 16 miles.) Once back to the hotel everyone (but the very weary coach) transitioned into a 30 minute run. We finished the day off with a few beverages and a bbq. Today some people were out to the airport bright and early while the others did a 1:30 run up into the desert hills. Ben and I are still around for one more morning of training and then it will be time to go HOME, bringing to an end 5 weeks of travel which included 17 flights, 2 nine day triathlon camps and an Ironman.

Tucson Camp Day 6
Today was an optional rest day for those who have been here all week (however most athletes decided to hit the early morning swim). For the rest of the gang it was an easy spin over to Saguro National Park where there is a one lane perfectly paved 8 mile loop through the desert. This would be a great loop for a time trial as it is technical and hilly (as evidenced by a couple of spills and trips off road into the brush). No one was hurt and everyone decided to take another shot at it with a second loop.
Last night felt like a pre race evening as all of the athletes are nervous and getting excited about their first trip to the top of Mt. Lemmon (just over 25 miles of climbing). This ride would definitely be on the list of top 5 rides so I am probably just as excited.

Tucson Camp Day 4
The camp doubled in size yesterday as a big crew of OHIO HPR members came in for the rest of the week. The crew that was here already did the 180km Tucson - Sonoita ride. Everyone did great and survived the 95 degree heat and the rather unfriendly border patrol where they had set up a check point and wanted to see everyone's Canadian passports. Last night was Chuey's for Mexican and then a few too many beers.

Tucson Camp Day 3
Another day in training paradise. 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky (sorry team back in Victoria, I have heard spring hasn't quite sprung yet). Today started off with another swim at sunrise and then a great run in Sabino Canyon. The fatigue of the last few weeks has definitely started to set in so I decided to drive the support van for this afternoons 2 hour recovery spin through the airport graveyard. Now Ben, Brewer and I are enjoying a Guiness to celebrate St. Paddy's day. CHEERS!
